What Are External Scenarios?

External Scenarios are files which add new levels to Ares. They can include new objectives, graphics, and sounds. External Scenarios can be made with the included Hera application.

How Do I Use External Scenarios?

There are two kinds of External Scenarios: single player, and networked.

Single Player External Scenarios

To use a single player scenario, make sure that Ares isnt running. Then, in the Finder, drag and drop the External Scenario onto the Ares application icon.

Networked External Scenarios

Both players must have the same version of the same External Scenario. The file must be placed in the Ares Net Scenarios folder on both players computers.

Once both players have the file in the correct location, initiate a normal networked game. In the Network Setup Screen, the host should click the Open button, navigate to the Ares Net Scenarios folder, and select the desired file. The other player will automatically load the same scenario file.

Be Careful

You should never replace the files in the Ares Data folder. This can corrupt your preferences file, and is unnecessary.

Ares will do its best to handle whatever is thrown at it in an External Scenario, but it can be made to crash if the scenario file asks it to do something unexpected.
